The team behind the Street Performance World Championships - Mark, Conor and the newly recruited Dan - are some of the most energetic and persistent young entrepreneurs ever! Mark & Conor were recently graduated from Trinity in IT Studies when they came up with the idea of holding the World Championships in Street Performance. The first free festival was held in Dublin in 2006, and brought huge entertainment to over 26,000 people. |

| Not half bad for a first time out, and a real testament to their commitment and passion. Not surprisingly, Mark & Conor won a load of awards and have been heavily tipped as ones to watch. In 2007 the numbers increased to over 40,000. Last year the festival spanned 3 days, with over 120 free shows and performers from all over the globe. This year, the festival takes place in Cork on June 13th & 14th, and Dublin 18th-21st June. It's a free festival, so no need to book, check out the website at : www.spwc.ie |
Corporate Booking of Amazing Acts The acts that come over for the World Championships are pretty much the very best in the World - you'll see magic, mystery and spectacle that is hard to find outside of Las Vegas. Street performers are amongst the hardest working of all style of performers - and some of the most original.
Emergent Events are launching their Corporate Booking Agency in July - they frequently have enquiries from all sorts of event organisers as to how to book the acts they've seen at the Festival. I know I thoroughly enjoyed the one corporate Christmas party I attended where Emergent Events brought over a couple of their entertainers. Amazing how well it translated from the street into a contained venue and much more amusing when the entertainers are interacting with people you actually know rather than strangers on the street. |

Emergent Events Supports the Centre for Excellence in Events Mark & Conor (and now new recruit Dan) have been big supporters of NEO Ireland and also the Centre for Excellence in Events. So when they were making their plans to launch the corporate booking agency, they came and asked us if we would like our own private showing. Did I jump at the chance? Absolutely.
So did a number of NEO members - read the event report at the C4EE website. Click here... |

| Online Event : I'M 4 the C4EE |
 |
For the month of May we conducted the I'M 4 Campaign online. The I'M 4 Campaign was your opportunity to let us know that you are in favour of the Centre for Excellence in Events. |
| Frequently Asked Questions about the C4EE |
| Is it just another network? No, the aim of the C4EE is for us to have an organisation whose members can show that they are serious professionals at what they do. |
| What do you have to do to be a member ? You have to be able to show that you have the experience and skills in the specific area of the events industry that you are a professional working in. You may be a professional event organiser or a conference and banqueting executive in a venue, an event controller on festivals, a technician or AV specialist. The application for membership is based on having achieved the level of experience and expertise, evidenced by a mixture of professional references (from employers, clients or colleagues) and qualifications (where appropriate). You will also agree to subscribe to a code of ethics and practise, and to ensuring that you have all the relevant paperwork necessary for professionals in your area. |
| Why are suppliers allowed to be members? When defining the events management profession, the description of the roles within the profession extends from the event organiser to the travel executive to the caterer, florist, audio-visual technician. Our proposals are not to develop a professional association for event organisers, but rather to have one that recognises the distinct and varied roles that make up the event management team. There are already several internationally recognised qualifications for event organisers/managers, as well as professional associations for them. We believe that the professionalism of all involved in delivering successfull events is critical.
In our industry, it's even more critical than in many others, when as many as 80% of all the events that are organised are organised by people for whom events management is not their primary job function or role. The team that delivers on the event is required to be highly professional in the (frequent) absence of a professional event organiser. Suppliers to the industry are required to have specialist knowledge and skills, often extending beyond the specific discipline in which they work. |
| Is the C4EE endorsed by any Government Body? Not yet. We haven't yet approached Government bodies such as Failte Ireland or Tourism Ireland who would be natural endorsers of an organisation like ours. Both organisations have had a remit to encourage inbound tourism, rather than domestic business tourism related activities. The sector has been hard to organise up to now, due to its diversity. We hope that, pending a successful campaign, to approach the Government bodies responsible for the "tourism/hospitality" sector (which we fall under) for endorsement. |
